GONE FISHIN’
In 48 Hours I Will Be In Warmth….
….but I’ve been freezing my bones off over the last week or so.
She shenanigans really began Thursday after work, after busting my but on errands and giving the house a good cleaning, going to the Zoo and picking up postcards for the RevCo Release Party and Benefit, I went to Blue Bayou for another installment of the burlesque performance, “Beads! Boobies! Booze! Burlesque!” I had run myself all over the northside for 5 hours and felt like I deserved to relax to a lil T &A some good eats and excellent beer.
This time I arranged for Dan Locke to meet me w/ his camera. When he arrived I wasted no time in ordering an order of fried pickles and some alligator sausage. Our waitress was Elise again and she didn’t seem too put off from all of my appearances there the previous weekend. She took care of our orders as well as most everyone else on her half of the floor in a crowd that even eclipsed that of the prior week. And Dan wasn’t the only photographer, there were about close to 10 attending I assume.
Dave was supposed to join me and he backed out, as was Tom but I was a okay, because within 30 minutes Ty Coon and Viva Nova would arrive. But I cannot stress enough hwo much those that keep missing these shows are missng. There eventually is in the grand scheme of things something in life that should be known as, “not a next time.” I cannot tell anyone that reads this how many times I’ve come across people that put off something, never get a chance to do it, and tell me, I wish I would have gone. Especially when it’s free. Carpe Diem my friends!
So Ty and Viva both joined us at our table both dolled up and both looking as good as can be.
After the performance we mixed with the talent that came by the table and chit chatted. I hadn’t seen Ty since 2 years ago at West Fest, and it was good to see her and catch up again. Damn I forgot what a good time we used to have day drinking at my old place up the street.
We ended up hanging out long after all of the showgirls left and much later than I had intended. But it was impossible to leave the company of friends I hadn’t been out with in ages.
I went to work Friday feeling haggard and worn, and all I wanted to do after was go home and go to sleep, early. But no, Dave called and decided that he did indeed want to come by and go over to the “Cold Weather Comfort” cast reception party at Holiday Club which was happening after they performed their play. It was debut night for this play.
As we waited we had a couple of drinks and joked with our server, Dave shot pool with some guy with a Marvel Comics “The Leader” sized forehead and a girl that seemed to like bending over in front of everyone in teh room each time she took a shot. When Dave Roberts opened the back room I went directly in and within minutes the cast and crew were filling the room that was filled with the DJ’s retro grooves. I went between rooms and talked with a cool trio in the front bar about the RevCo event as well as some of the staff who also seemed very interested.
When we filtered out I went home and fast to sleep. It hadn’t started snowing yet as was forecast and I was hoping for it not to, as I would have to spend the next afternoon promoting the RevCo party on foot and picking up my mail which included a box full of 250 CD’s of RevCo remix giveaways for the benefit.
Yup it was Saturday and I got up and watched a western and then a great flick with Billy Bob Thorton and Bruce Willis titled “Bandits” which was so good that it really sucked me in. So much that I made time to email my brother about it before my trek to the mailbox. And yes, it snowed, not 8 inches but enough to make it another annoying outdoor winter day in Chicago.
Saturday afternoon I had a backpack full of 2 sided full color glossy postcards that I estimate weighed about 10-15 lbs. And rode the train to my mailbox where yes indeed there was a box from the Ministry gang in El Paso full of new Revolting Cocks remix CD’s. And I knew I’d have to carry this thing all the way home, in the cold, wind and snow as to allow me to stop every 1/2 block or so, put the box down and take a stack of postcards into a store to promote the forthcoming event. It was a pain but as usual was typical of my dedication and loyalty to a cause.
Then I went home, finally, took my boots off, put my feet up and took in Clint Eastwoods “The Outlaw Josey Wales” until, you guessed, Dave called.
*Holiday Club
*The Spot where we chatted w/ The Flaming Dames and then back to
*Holiday Club where we met a friend of the owners who took us to
Carols till 5 AM.
Sunday morning I broke in my new skillet and made a huge batch of eggs and cheese the way I learned from my good friend Mich when we were boating down the Mississippi last Oct.
